I’ve learned to drop small chunks (approximately a cube) of key stock in the seal cavity and then use a standard caliper measuring between the two known thickness of key stock to get the outside diameter. It’s a pain but without the right tool, it was the best I could come up with. For best accuracy, you need to radius one side of the key stock to fit the bore or you’ll slightly underestimate the diameter because the corners hit first.
I’ll second Hercules Sealing products, but my local repair shop keeps a lot of seals in stock, so I frequently just go in and they have what I need same day. | |
