The only way to keep mice out is to put aluminum roofing flash or other "slick" material around the tires. They can't climb up it and get in. I also stored a vehicle with a complete flashing barrier around the vehicle because of the access to the tires.
Had mice make a nice comfy nest out of dryer sheets, and I can't take the smell of moth balls. Never tried mint (??)
