because a charged up nh3 system in the off season for variously obvious reasons is a accident waiting to happen.
bleeding it off doesn’t mean you have to let it fill with air, letting it bleed off for about 15-30 minutes is usually good enough to get rid of the liquid fraction of the nh3.
