I guess the 1042 having an engine that can come tuned at 500hp from the factory (12.4L) is apples to apples with the Deere 9L engine. I think a 900 Vario would be a more fair comparison and the same class of tractor as the Deere. I will say that Deere needs to come out with a bigger engine for their MFWDs with 370+ horsepower. The 9L just doesn't have enough displacement for lugging ability when you get to those power levels.
