It sounds to me like you have an electrical problem. The power shift is electric over hydraulic. Sounds like two solenoids are trying to engage at once thus stalling the engine. The hydraulic wine could be a filter or strainer problem or it could be trying to go to high pressure standby for some reason. I'd start with a filter change first.
