Subject: Rust converter for a restoration?

s.e. Pa
I have a set of fenders for an old truck that need sandblasted and painted. They sat in the woods for who knows how long, but are not rusted through. They seem pretty solid but have a lot of pitting, and not a speck of paint left. I am planning to sandblast them, but am worried about the rust left in the pits that I won’t be able to get. I read about people acid treating metal to try and stop this rust from coming back. Does anyone have experience with something like this? If so what should I use and how should I do it?
