New pistons and old rings makes no sense . New rings do if its been hot or dusted . Honing is old news for cast blocks and old cast iron rings . Plus machining is way better than it used to be . Oil is better . Most new engines run forever and still have machine marks in the cylinders. What does amaze me is how they live with the low viscosity oil . Like water .
