Paxton, IL | I'm pretty new to trucks. So take my comments for what they're worth, but I bought a local '98 Volvo day cab, 10 spd, around 500K miles, well maintained for $16,000 before last fall. Pete and Kenworth trucks were way out of my price range and all the Internationals I looked at needed quite a bit of work.
The Volvo is comfortable to drive, has a more spacious cab, and is very maneuverable. So far I really like it, particularly for the price I paid. My biggest complaint is I have the Volvo D12 motor, which is fine (set at 425 HP) but parts and service is much more limited. If I could have picked, I would have gotten a more common engine with better parts and support availability. It has made a great farm truck so far. Nothing against Peterbilt or Kenworth at all, but I wouldn't be afraid of the less desirable trucks for your needs and budget. The key to me is finding one that has been taken care of. | |
