west central Iowa | I cut down an 8' diameter maple with that 14" Mac, but it was about 6' of air and a foot of tree around the outside, but that was just a nuisance tree along a creek, not much good for firewood. We have cut wood to heat the house since I was in high school in the 70s. Oak, elm, ash and boxelder, many were big enough you had to cut a big notch so a 20" bar would reach far enough. If you have timber pasture you want cleared and a house to heat, it makes sense. My part of Iowa is not solid cornfields, you ever heard of the loess hills of wester Iowa. | |
