Subject: Ford 946 Precleaner

Have a Ford 946 with the air cleaner aspirator hose into the muffler. Muffler is getting rusted and filled the air filter with soot. Don’t necessarily want to buy a new muffler, would it be better to cap the aspirator lines and just buy a precleaner like a Donaldson or turbo II or run the aspirator line up into the fan shroud? Thanks!
