Faunsdale, AL | The 6620 and similar machines are different. Can be much much worse if you’re trying to reuse the auger and you can’t get it to come off the output shaft of the gearbox.
The later machines have a drive cog on the output shaft that the auger drops over, so no problem getting it off. Just have to remove enough shielding to get to the box, remove the belt and unbolt the box. Reverse order to install new one.
Those boxes are an item that is going to fail eventually. The output shaft seal should be inspected and the drive cog shaken back and forth to check for slack in the bearings every year or whenever the auger is out. Caught mine this year before it failed. I’ve had multiple failures on older combines after repairing the gearbox. Probably best to just install a new one if you can get it in a timely manner.
