Subject: RE: Tractor dyno?

Jeffersonville, OH
WCWI - 12/3/2022 10:13

My shop put my 6710 on the dyno, PTO speed is 1850 and rated at 95hp at that speed, engine goes to 2200 I think. Mechanic said it was putting out 140hp, I think he must have had it up to full rpm and lugged to PTO speed to get that reading, when baling I usually run at PTO speed and shift down on the hills if I need to, does not seem to have much more power then my American 80 on the baler, but for me makes a nice baling rig. For testing purposes should it not be held at close to the no load rpm instead of fun up to full rpm and lugged to PTO speed?

See, exactly my point.

On a dyno, you run the tractor to WIDE OPEN, and check RPM at the PTO. If the speed is correct, you then pull the tractor down to the Rated PTO speed, and that is the RATED PTO HP for that tractor.

Now, if you want to know what the HP is at PTO speed, you can pull it down to that speed, and it will almost always be higher than Rated HP.

If you are talking about PTO speed for a 6710 White, then it is most definitely not 1850 Engine RPM.

From the A&W Dyno Manual, AGCO White 6710 Rated Speeds are 2400 Engine, and 1200 RPM and 682 RPM for 1000 and 540 PTO speeds respectively. The Rated Engine RPM is 2200, and 1100 RPM and 625 RPM again for 1000 and 540 PTO speeds. So, that tractor should be ran at 2400 Engine RPM, 1200 PTO and then pulled down to 2200 Engine and 1100 PTO RPM and that is what the Rated PTO HP will be. If you pull it on down to 1000 RPM on the PTO, then engine should be approximately 2000RPM and you will almost always have more power than at Rated.

BTW, Rated power is 95.6hp on a 6710 White

Your dyno operator is either wrong, testing incorrectly, or lying to you.
