NW Missouri | That describes me pretty well. I fix what I can myself, but don't have the knowledge to dig into major repairs. Dad built a shop 4 years ago after never having more than an open sided dirt floor shed before, and that has improved my mechanical ability by a lot. Being able to take something apart on a concrete floor with good lights and be able to leave it and come back in a day or two allows me to dig into stuff I wouldn't try otherwise. I've learned that the right tools and the right spot to work on stuff is almost half the battle to being a decent mechanic. I also have an uncle that's a really good mechanic and he has mentored me quite a bit since the shop was built. All that said, I also have a day job, so I only have so much time in a week to get everything else done on the farm, so if it's something complicated, or if I'm way behind at the time, I'm going to hire it out. | |
