Illinois Heartland | If you don't like it why do you cook one?
Good question, never really thought about it. Guess because of tradition and that’s what we assume everyone else wants to eat for Thanksgiving. After all, “you can’t have Thanksgiving without turkey”. Guess I need to reevaluate and poll the family next year before we commit to fixing another one. I’d much rather smoke some ribs or brisket like we do on the 4th. I’d even go for some beer butt chickens.
Btw, I’ve fixed them in the oven in a roasting pan, in an oven bag, on the grill, on the smoker, and in a deep fryer. Didn’t care for any of them. I’ll pick around at the breast meat, but absolutely detest any of the dark meat or slimy carcass meat. I’ve seen people at fairs or public events walking around eating a turkey leg they bought at a food truck and it makes me sick and want to leave! |
