Central ND | Not on a Deere, but on flat-track Cats. Bought a pair of used belts for a scraper tractor that I wanted to run a year before buying new belts, and on the first job started spitting the guide blocks. Found most of them, cut a few more off a pair of junk belts I had, bolted the torn off ones back on, and all the rest. Took us the better part of 2 days, but ran the belts almost to destruction after, close to 600 hours pulling a direct mount scraper. Drilling the belts will not hurt them (if you're losing blocks, does it really matter anyway?) Best thing I found to drill the belt was a rotary hammer with a good masonry bit. Belts for the last 15 years or so have stainless steel cables. The old steel cables didn't drill too bad, but these stainless ones are a PITA.
Good luck and don't let the guys talk crap about getting some more life out of a $10k belt. | |
