north central Iowa, Hampton | I've had to find a job. Yes, there are a lot out there, but no, many of them don't meet my ideas of a decent amount of pay and more or less defined hours (those hours could even be crappy, just tell me what they are). I've learned the hard way that any new start means you're at the bottom of the pole, that you know very little of the politics of the place and you're at the end of the line for seniority, benefits and perks because people know and trust you.
For those in the Ag world, we have an incredible amount of skills and most actual people understand that. One problem is getting through all the automated processes to start with. If the job description says you need a particular certification and you don't have it--you may not even get past the HR screen, even though obtaining that certificate would take an afternoon's class.
that new job probably puts you in position for a tough year or two until you get the new place figured out. |
