Franklinton, LA | I agree with you. Hardwood strips that are 3/4 X 2 3/8" will work in most places. They can be attached with a 15 Ga. brad nailer using 1 1/2 - 2" long brads. The storage chest in the attached photos is made of 3/4" red oak plywood and red oak trim strips.
Most hardwoods will work for drawer guides but I like the ball bearing guides. If you plan to have a lot of weight in the drawers you can get guides with a higher load rating.
