You aren't taking into account compound interest on the tax deferred money. Many IRA's, 401k etc are tax deferred and that compound interest by far outweighs the concerns of what tax bracket we are discussing. From carrying over income to tax deferred investments there is many reasons to avoid not sending uncle sam a check yet and most of the time its based on being able to make money on what is someday owed.
