And that's why the utility companies like it.
During peak periods like around noon, they are buying solar at much cheaper prices than the peaker plants get. Plus, the folks that have solar aren't pulling much of the high priced power. At midnight, the net-metering folks are pulling power that costs much less or in some cases, the utility has to pay for not using.
