| The reason Medicare costs less is because the government mandates what can be charged. Health Care providers make up the shortfall by changing those with private medical insurance much, much, much more even after negotiated savings by the insurance companies.
The same procedure may be 75% cheaper for Medicare than what private insurance companies have to pay. More in many instances.
Put everyone on Medicare and the Healthcare Providers will go bust. Or, raise the price Medicare patients can be charged to even it out. The elderly will be busted then or go with health services.
Edit to add: Medicare costs are hugely subsidized by private insurance companies indirectly.
