East central Iowa | Your post reminded me of my dad. We had a neighbor that ran a lot of cattle, we had around 100 head. The corn we grew that was worth about 93¢ was turned into $2 or $3 corn by feeding those cattle. (we had hogs too) Years later I asked dad, why didn't you buy more cattle and buy corn to feed them. You'd have made a lot of money. Dad said, "I had enough." For dad, a clean farmstead, painted buildings, and decent machinery was enough.
