| I'm going to preface this by saying that my family and I always stand and put our hands over our hearts when the anthem comes on - even in our living room.
That being said, while I think it's poor form, it's his right as an American to do or not do whatever he pleases.
It's the same as the Pledge of Allegiance for me. While I always personally participate, I also understand that a forced blind oath to an entity I didn't choose, which doesn't always live up to the ideals espoused in said oath, is not particularly reflective of the freedoms it is supposed to be honoring. And I find it beyond ironic that the people who fly a "**** your feelings" flag in their yard seem to have a lot of feelings about Mellencamp and others who don't agree with them.
I don't have to like or endorse what they are doing, but whining about it and encouraging boycotts seems to be part of the same cancel culture I don't like when aimed at me and my beliefs. | |
