Subject: RE: "winterizing" my new tree line

N.W. Illinois
I've planted quite a few Green Giant arborvitae and have yet to have deer or rabbit bother them at all and I have plenty of deer and rabbits. Green Giants are known for their deer resistance, I would add rabbit resistance too.

The only issue I have seen is winter burn from a much below zero temp and wind when the trees were in the ground the first year. It dinged some of the trees, kinda hit and miss. Not sure you can really do much about it, don't think you want to wrap all of them. If you lose a few replant isn't that big of a deal.

Green Giants are awesome trees and make a wonderful wind break when they get some size. Keep watering them, especially in the summer, whenever you hit an extended dry spell. Green Giants actually have decent drought tolerance but dry weather will set them back.
