Chaffee, Western New York | Exceptionally unusual..... not when the conditions are right but typically it doesn't hit one place for the full effect. When the lake is warm and the wind is right a bunch of snow can happen. The "blizzard of 77" was a frozen lake that had light dry snow on it. There's been several of these snowfalls that break 3 feet in a day or two that all blend together in memory. A few roofs will collapse and government will declare an emergency (ticket trucks driving on dry roads and then collect government disaster funds to distribute to no bid deals for clean up).
I'm 1550 feet elevation and in the middle of the typical snow zone but we've only had a few shots of 8" or so on saturated unfrozen ground. The snow is very wet and heavy, just barely frozen, thus it melts off the bottom and into the ground quickly. Yesterday I had at least a foot on the railings of the house and today I can see old back furrows standing out of the snow perfectly.
I don't have the snow blower hooked up, not worried about it.
Don't have corn done, not worried about it.
We're south of the current excitement. |
