mercer county, il
Just for an idea, right now, the flow at Vicksburg,MS is 241,000 ft3 per second. YoY average is 530k.

That’s almost a 2.1 million Gallon per second shortfall. And the river actually has come back up some.

To put it in a nutshell, the upper Mississippi is closer to average levels now, still fairly low in St. Louis, but not really hindering navigation, and the flow is 110k cfs, and that’s below the Missouri River. So to get close to average flows for this time of year, you’d need to double that flow, as well as doubling the flow from the Ohio, white river etc.

It’s simply a matter of scale. Even cranking most reservoirs open to the max outfall? Wouldn’t make much of a dent in the total flow required, considering this has been an issue for months.

And I wasn’t trying to be a Richard, just trying to get people to understand it a bit better.
