mercer county, il | Problem is, the levels of the rivers (where regulated by dams) are literally law. Same with most reservoirs, and most were built under the thought of flood control, not water for navigation. But people lobbied politicians to keep lake levels up for a multitude of reasons, like drinking water.
And honestly? Actually look at the data, as far as regulated ft3 in storage in the lakes, regulated outflows for all lakes in an entire basin, and look at the amount of water that it takes to get the river down there a foot higher, let alone 3 or 4. Combined with the fact that the majority of the Mississippi basin had record low rainfall this year.
When you can come back and tell me that there’s enough water in storage, to have kept the river high enough until we get enough rain to bring it up naturally? I’ll listen. Until then you’re just blowing smoke. | |
