First thing you need to ask for is a written denial letter. The fact that your Dad was driving shouldn’t be reason for denial unless they feel like his actions caused the fire.

In general a liability policy covers your legal liability to another party. Thus it pays when you are negligent etc. For example if you repaired a leaking fuel line with duct tape and that caused the fire. If the fire was just a freak accident and you did nothing to cause the fire, it would be a stretch to find legal liability on your part.

You can spend a lot of time and money fighting this but your Dad’s insurance company will subrogate against yours if they feel you were clearly responsible.

If it were me, I’d pay Dad’s deductible and move on.
