Southwestern Minnesota | I am also not a doctor, but am a dietitian/nutritionist (although do not play one on TV) and concur that an adequate Vit D level is important for immune function. A person needs to know what their Vit D level actually is, as it varies tremendously from person to person. There's no reason to take a supplement if your level is high. However, most (especially in the northern climates) are way too low. Adequate Vit C is important too. Zinc supplements are helpful when you have symptoms, but are not usually recommended for regular use.
I ended up contracting Covid a month ago (and yes I tested myself at home). I had been taking Vit D and Vit C supplements and started Zinc at the onset of symptoms. I had bad congestion and fatigue for two days and then a pretty quick resolution of symptoms. This is only anecdotal, but my experience. In my opinion with Covid, the best offense is a good defense and nutrition does play a key role. | |
