Since your laptop came with Win10, the activation information for a new install is in the firmware. Windows should find this and use it to activate so you don't need to purchase another license.
Depending on the error message you get when the system tries to boot, there are ways to attempt to fix the MBR or EFI bootloader. If the original drive was bitlocker encrypted, doing a clone will certainly require you to enter the recovery key before boot. Lots of possible reasons boot will fail, and a clean install is certainly the best option, but I understand not wanting to lose data.
If you have a SATA to USB adapter, you may be able to pull files off the old drive even if it won't boot. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-USB-Cable-USB3S2SAT3CB/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2H68KTOQYIWE&keywords=USB3S2SAT3CB&qid=1668086982&sprefix=usb3s2sat3cb%2Caps%2C583&sr=8-3
