For you there probably would be no advantage to farming in a circle. It was pretty well developed by Dr. Leon New as a method for hot dry regions to farm with less water. The program starts with hose drops down to a foot off the ground to lessen wind losses, low pressure bubble pads ideally or low pressure spray pads as a second choice to apply water to only a portion of the ground between the rows to lessen evaporation,,and furrow dikes to prevent runoff. It makes a pivot irrigation 96% water efficient--almost as good as drip. But it requires hoses every 60 inches if you plant on 30s or every 80 inches for 40 inch rows.
You might go to the nrcs website with all the maps and search for a map of Parmer, Castro or Hale county and zoom in on a few pivots to get an idea of what it looks like. | |
