Central Kansas | If she has headaches with this and pain or soreness in her temples, she should have inflammation marker blood tests done, if not already accomplished. Specifically C Reactive Protein (CRP) and red cell sedimentation rate (sed rate). If these are elevated, there is a chance she has Giant Cell Arteritis or Temporal arteritis. Definitive Dx is clipping a section of temporal artery and having pathologist look for infiltration of giant cells, inflammation. This is a serious auto immune disease that can cause optic nerve damage, stroke, etc. high doses of prednisone are treatments.
Suspect this has already been addressed, however, GCA is not common and is often not part of differential diagnosis. Jaw pain and joint disorder are hallmarks. Hoping a quick diagnosis and treatment no matter the cause. | |
