I'm thinking you're also missing a CAN terminator. It's been a while since I've spent time around a midrange combine but on a Flagship that triangular connector has a cap looking thing plugged into it the terminates the CANBUS that the gps receiver is on. Without the terminator it's possible you could have some odd CAN issues pop up.
