near dyersville iowa | have a small 7 acre pasture that im going to put in row crops next year. hasnt been cropped in 20 years. no clover, but lots of grass and thistle. Ive bush hogged it once already to try to control the thistle a little bit until i can spray it this fall. Soybeans across the fence, dont really want to spray until they have been harvested, or at least until after the spray will affect them. I tried no tilling some other shorter term pasture last year, it was a disaster. will be putting corn in, as it has to match the neighboring field for access reasons. Ground in the pasture is extremely hard. mostly clay underneath a foot or so of creek bottom type dirt. I have gone to having my ground custom planted with a planter with all the add ons, will that help with the hardness of the soil and the root mass? it is highly erodible land, and i dont really want to leave it bare or plow it this fall. but im not sure what to do since it was such a disaster last year on the different field. thoughts? | |
