Wisconsin | 90+% of problems with modern fridges are defrost issues, that's what takes so much power and that's what they skimp on to try to make the energy standards. If you can, put ice in the fridge, and put everything from the freezer in a different freezer, then leave the freezer door open with a fan blowing at the louvered vent, and prepare to catch the water on the floor if it will cause damage. Once it's warmed up, and not dripping anymore, turn it back on and shut the door. If it works, then you know it wasn't defrosting. Also, the drip pan overflowing indicates that it had way more ice than it should built up.
Options are to take the cover off and check the defrost thermostat and heater, or find somebody to check it out, or get a replacement defrost control that doesn't meet energy code, one that defrosts on a reasonable schedule. The factory repairman may not be allowed to tell you about that, the independent guy in the van should be able to, but he might not know or just might prefer to stick with "authorized" parts.
edit: you may be able to look up and see how to manually turn on the defrost cycle, if that clears frost buildup and overflows the drain pan and the fridge works for a few weeks, then you know the defrost components are good, and the timer is being too cheap on you.
