Coastal South Carolina | I live about 30 miles east of MB.
Some days are very HUMID and hot.
Depending on the age of your family you may enjoy Broadway at the beach. Lots of shopping, a few amusement rides, some boat rides, zip lines etc. If your family has never been to an aquarium I would recommend Ripley’s at Broadway. You can easily spend 3 to 4 hours at the aquarium.
Murrells Inlet is a good choice for seafood. I have visited “Prossers” (17 Business) several times and Hansor House several times. Both have good seafood. If you go to MI I recommend the Marsh Walk. (Pier going into the Inlet Marsh). There are a few shops and restaurants on the Marsh Walk. Depending on the time of day it is about 30 minutes south of the airport on 17. MI also has/had deep sea fishing. I have been out 30 miles for a 9 hour trip.
Georgetown waterfront: approximately 1 hour south of airport. 10 to 12 blocks of storefronts and museums on the waterfront. The waterfront has boat-slips for private boats. Somewhat of a let down to me.
Charleston: approximately 2.5 hours south of airport. Fort Sumter, the “Battery”, and the Market are all worth visiting. Can easily spend a day plus there. They also have the aircraft carrier “Yorktown “ at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant (Charleston suburb). It is setup as a floating museum. Some cobblestone streets if you know where to look.
Kitty Hawk is approximately 5 hours away.
Hope this helps.
