Subject: Cattle in custom lot-who pays when they die from heat

western iowa,by Denison
heat wave really wreaking havoc in open lots-just wonder who pays if you have some die?
We are cleaning barns, and we have couple pens that have to go outside with no shade for about 1 hour-never seen cattle run so fast to get back under the shade'
The 50 square feet barns seem the best and short walls with guard rail on top to let air in at about 42inchs with a 6inch gap then guard rail above'
With the barns not having a bedding pack and 3 weeks between cleaning-noticed the cattle cooled off really quick with no manure pack build up the last few days.

I really think the barns pay bigger dividends during summer heat then the rest of the year-no cattle ration change like I use to have to do when I had empty lots.
We have takin the overflow pipes out and raised the water levels in are Bohlmans and that really helps a lot for xtra water capacity

On a good note, ice has not gone up at my local gas station-so I guess you could say we are winning!
