New crop corn “ here” is $6.65.
Over the years I gave up a lot of opportunity $ feeding hogs, had to price my corn WAAYYY below elevator value, just to tell myself I was covering my other expenses.
Will this happen in cattle…..maybe.
Right now, that corn price works for me, feeding steins. Guys can believe it or not, doesn’t matter to me.
Garvo……care to address what was going on with your concern, last winter, of running out of feed in the summer?
I think this is another nail in the coffin of any independent hog guys that are left…..sad.
Anyone got a bid at their elevator of $9 cash corn …..? Not that I’ve seen.
There are some options that can give opportunities of a price spike in corn while still locking in feed costs.
