nw NC | Paraquat destroys plant growth by rupturing the cell walls of living leaf material. The leaf looses moisture and drys out (desiccates) quickly. Small plants generally do not recover if they have been contacted/covered sufficiently. Large plants many times will put out new growth from the growing point on stems and recover from spraying. Also some can regrow from roots.
Very actively growing grasses of some species can recover also if they have not been thoroughly covered from "head to toe" with spray solution. Also some grass species regrow from rhizomes and roots.
Glyphosate products must be absorbed into the plant tissue. If you burn the plant with Paraquat, it dries the living plant tissue before Glyphosate can be absorbed in a quantity sufficient to be lethal. | |
