Subject: Current economics of ethanol

SC IA
If corn is $7.50 per bushel and you can get 2.8 gallons of ethanol per bushel (google search) that makes the material cost of ethanol $2.68/gallon. Of course this doesn’t factor in cost to produce and transport but also doesn’t factor in sales of by products. If gas prices go north of $5 I don’t see how this won’t be the best alternative to supplement petroleum. What am I missing?
