I’m not a bean product expert, but I see pre’s break a lot when you get insufficient rainfall to incorporate them, but enough to germ the weeds.

Planters can break the barrier.
Trash can tie up the herbicides.
Cloddy soil leaves gaps.


When growing something that doesn’t have herbicide options, I like to mechanically incorporate something and then layer over it with something incorporated by water or rain. Probably not easy if your paying someone for app though.



I put down a yellow and incorporate it then come back with authority supreme over the top. Just did 900 acres this way with a $9000 sprayer and a 31 year old tractor. I was a few days behind the bulk of my neighbors but a day or two done doesn’t matter as much as being done right.


I haven’t priced retail applications for several years but I’m guessing on pre alone we can save $25 between chemical and my application cost. More $$ on the post. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s $40 an acre for the year.
