If you have good emergence you will be fine… if you put nitrogen on with the planter…

Rye that size does its job… it prevents erosion and sucks up available nutrients. It also takes a long time for it to give them back.

I prefer to keep my rye small enough that when terminated it falls down. But we also have some that got bigger then we wanted due to poor spraying conditions.
