Farmington, Mo | I’ve done this a lot in the past decade and a half. First question is have these acres been sprayed in the past 12 months with any pasture type herbicides? If so, beans are a bad choice, corn would be fine.
If not, what you cut for hay, you will want to let it regrow a good week before spraying so there is adequate leaf tissue to absorb the herbicide. You could plant the beans immediately after removing the bales and then hit with a stiff dose of glyphosate, AMS, 2,4-D or Dicamba (depending on your tech segment) and a post emerge residual of your choice.
The part you don’t cut, I would never bush hog. Similar herbicide suggestions with the exception of substitute a post emerge for a good pre residual and verdict, AMS and MSO.
Plant as soon as conditions are fit and you will have some of the best beans of the year on these acres. | |
