Unless you're planning on moldboard plowing or making 10 passes across it I wouldn't consider doing any kind of tillage until after you get the beans off it this fall. And that's if you get a good kill on the grass this year. I've made the mistake of thinking a tillage pass would smooth it up...it didn't. Give it a hefty dose of roundup, AMS and crop oil, possibly something like warrant as well, no till the beans into it (best advice there is go to the field with the depth already set where you want it and just don't look back, trust me it'll turn out fine). Then just be ready to hit it once or twice with roundup again after you plant. Just don't skimp on the rate.

I broke up some ground that had been grass for 40 years and made every mistake I could've. Just whatever you do, do not bring a disk over it this spring. And if you do hire the harvesting done, it won't matter what it costs it'd be worth it.
