| What you are experiencing/describing, is the failure to balance pedal travel with clutch disengagement/transmission brake activation. The clutch internal adjustment ring sets this balance. In fact, I make this setting by three operation preferences: 1) pedal free play, 2) foot orientation with initial clutch engagement, and 3) amount of pedal travel between clutch release and transmission braking. As long as the linkage was designed correctly and is working appropriately, there will be a lot of leeway with these adjustments.
