NW Washington | I am sure that is what was commonly called a "blacksmith leveler" on the Palouse. There was a shop in Moscow Idaho that made some of those local conversions, especially for John Deere 55 combines. Seems they used a rack and pinion lash-up for leveling too, just like the old PT hillside combines. And some had manual leveling with a bubble level to guide the operator.
I have also heard that the owner of the shop patented the header swivel system for hillside combines and John Deere ripped off his idea. And when he complained they told him to "sue us." | |
