Driftless SW Wisconsin

fordthinkin - 5/11/2022 07:33 Pay day will come again for cattle but I don't fault anyone doing something different if it makes a profit.

Beef profit is already here - just going to the packers and middlemen and shareholders. Tyson just reported increased profits due to them pre-emptively raising prices. Have you seen the prices in the grocery store meat case or steakhouse restaurant recently?  Many folks won't even consider buying anything but ground beef.  As I see it -

Cattle will never be profitable through the traditional system controlled by 4 buyers.

Add in higher prices for fuel, fertilizer, feedlot corn and soy meal and....

If the odds are stacked against you and you can't win at the current game, you need to either quit or play a different game.

Anyone I hire for odd jobs around the farm always gets a couple steaks for a tip, keeps them coming back
