Hillsboro, TN | I don't know much about the alfalfa part, or your typical climate (humidity, rainfall patterns, etc.).
Here, with average grass hay, I like to lay the windrow wide and wait until the next day to run the tedder. Heavy grass crops, such as Bermuda or wheat hay, I like to lay it wide and give it several hours to dry the top some then run the tedder that evening. On those crops I may Ted multiple times.
A tedder is a necessary evil for me. I've only owned a couple 4 basket lighter made ones and I despise them. The next one I buy will be a six basket heavy built (Krone, Pequea) with transport tires. The little tires on the lighter units just don't seem to hold up very well traveling down the road. | |
