It seems to me that if the size of your operation is so large that you can't get it all planted because of weather delays the problem is with the scale of your operation. I will readily admit this viewpoint comes through the lens of a STO operation.
That said pp is certainly a tool that allows big operations to grow bigger still, limits the risk factors inherent in large operations, and helps large operations swallow up small operations.


I am a 1 man show sto. Cover about 2300 acres including custom work. Sometimes mother nature will simply not let you get in the fields. I started farming on my own in '99. In 22 years I have had to pp acres once, and that was only about 65 acres. So far this year I haven't been able to do anything in the field and we just got significant rains today. This is easily the latest spring start in my life, ( I'm 43).
