Subject: Row Shutoff Distance

I currently have my row clutches set to clutch on and off at about 20 inches from the headland row. With classic seed tubes at 5 MPH, it's about +/- 6 inches from target. I find that to be about right for combining, and get enough canopy to shade out weeds.
Is their any extensive research or strong opinions about going closer or farther away?
