Southern MN in the pothole between the hills | Need some advice on how to deal with cutworms in my beans. Started no-tilling beans in '19. I've had to spray for cutworms every year. They appear shortly after the beans emerge. I thought they were armyworms at first. I had an agronomist take a look, and that's what he said they were, too. After doing some more research, I think they're actually army cutworms. I've seen these cutworms as early as March, and as late as December. It's my understanding that armyworms don't like the cold. I've sprayed with chlorpyrifos every year, but that's not an option anymore. Do I need to go back to conventional tillage? Truth be told, I wasn't a very diligent crop scouter before '19. Maybe I had them back then, too. Maybe they won't do enough damage that they don't need to be sprayed, either, I don't know. I seem to be the only one in my area that has this problem. Either that, or I'm the only one out late enough to see them.
